McNeil to stand trial for 2000 murder | News
David McNeil will stand trial for the ten-year-old murder of his friend Chesney Hansen.
Police say McNeil beat and strangled Hansen before throwing him off the balcony of a Sugar House motel back in 2000.
McNeil had been the longtime suspect, but witnesses were afraid to testify and the case grew cold. Last year, new witnesses emerged and a murder charge against McNeil was filed.
Police asked Fox 13 News for help locating McNeil and tipsters led them to his Taylorsville home in under two hours.
"With the help of Fox 13 it took two hours, two hours to find this guy! And thanks to the community too, that's the main thing. I'm really glad this guy's not on the street to harm another family," said the victim's sister Angie Hansen last April.
McNeil's murder trial is scheduled to begin April 22.
